Hồng Đào is a veteran Vietnamese American actress and comedian who has worked both in the United States and Vietnam. Originally from Buôn Ma Thuột, Vietnam, she attended and trained at the University of Ho Chi Minh's Academy of Dramatic & Theatrical Arts and afterward became widely known for her work in Vietnam as a comedic performer in the 1980s both on stage and on screen. During the mid-1990s, Hồng Đào resettled in San Jose, California, United States. She grew to prominence among Vietnamese-speaking audiences globally through her live-staged comedy work with US-based Vietnamese-language variety shows for Van Son Entertainment, Thuy Nga Productions's Paris by Night, and Asia Entertainment. However, she eventually returned to the entertainment industry in Vietnam in 2010 in her onscreen comeback with Gia Dinh So Do alongside stars Don Nguyen and Nha Phuong. Since then, she has since appeared in many films and web dramas in Vietnam, including Trịnh Đình Lê Minh's Goodbye Mother (Thưa mẹ con đi), in which her performance was critically received. She makes her Hollywood and English-language screen debut in Netflix's series Beef, starring Ali Wong and Steven Yeun. Hồng Đào is based in Southern California and is the proud mother of two daughters, Vicky and Sophia.
